A Ukrainian drone attack on an industrial plant in Izhevsk, in central Russia, killed three people and injured 35 others, regional Governor Alexander Brechalov said in a post on Telegram. The drone struck the Kupol Electromechanical Plant, which produces air defence systems and drones for the Russian military, an unnamed official with Ukraine's Security Service, the SBU, told the Associated Press news agency. A Russian attack on a vehicle evacuating civilians from Pokrovsk, in Ukraine's Donetsk region, killed one person and injured a policeman, police said. The Ministry of Defence in Moscow said that 60 Ukrainian drones were downed overnight over several regions, including 17 over Russian-occupied Crimea, 16 over Russia's Rostov region and four over Russia's Saratov region. Ukraine's Air Force said on Tuesday that Russia launched 52 Shahed and decoy drones at the country overnight.

Russian-occupied Ukrainian nuclear plant at risk, warn former workers

New Scientist

A fire at Europe's largest nuclear power plant is the latest in a string of worrying incidents since the Ukrainian facility was captured by Russia in March 2022. Former workers at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) have warned New Scientist that expertise and equipment for keeping the facility safe are in short supply, meaning the situation is risky and unpredictable. "No one has yet evaluated the safety of nuclear power plants under war conditions," one former worker says, speaking anonymously for fear of reprisal from Russian occupying forces. The conflict in Ukraine, which has now lasted more than two years, is the first time in history that a war is being fought around nuclear power plants. All four of Ukraine's operational plants have experienced at least one incident, while a recent Ukrainian incursion into Russian territory has seen reports that the latter is fortifying the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant against attack.

Ukraine's military said that fighting around the front line city of Chasiv Yar was "difficult" and "tense" but that its forces were resisting Russian air and infantry attacks. A woman was killed in a Russian attack that hit an apartment block in Kupiansk, in the northeastern Kharkiv region. In Russia, meanwhile, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said one woman was killed after shrapnel from a shot-down Ukrainian drone hit a car.

Russia says Ukraine attack hits Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant

Ukraine has struck the dome above a shutdown reactor at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear station, the plant's Russian-installed administration said. It was not immediately clear what weapon was used in Sunday's attack against the nuclear plant, which was taken by Russian forces shortly after their full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, although the Russian state-owned nuclear agency Rosatom said the site had come under a drone attack. Radiation levels were normal and there was no serious damage after the attack, according to the plant's officials. But Rosatom later said that three people had been wounded, specifically in a drone strike near the site's canteen. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which has experts at the site, said it had been informed by the Russian-run plant that a drone had detonated at the site and the information was "consistent" with IAEA observations.
